World Press Photos

Dear Sir or Madam,

World Press Photo is an independent non-profit organization that was founded in the Netherlands in 1955. Its primary goal is to create international support and attention for professional press photographers. Throughout the years, World Press Photo has developed into an independent platform for photojournalism and free exchange of information.

In order to achieve its goal, World Press Photo organizes an annual press photography contest that has become one of the largest and most prestigious contests in the field of press photography.hbkshk 2008

The winning pictures form a traveling exhibition that attracts more than 2 million visitors every year at approximately 100 locations worldwide.

World Press Photo would like to ask you whether you would be interested in promoting the 2009 World Press Photo contest among photojournalists in your Egypt.

Prospective contestants can visit our website from 1 October 2008 for detailed information in nine languages on how to enter the contest:

www.worldpressphoto.org/contest

They have two options for submitting their entry:

From 1 December 2008, they can enter the contest online by clicking on the link provided on our website. Once they have registered themselves, they can upload their images intended for submission directly to our server. This option is not only available for individual contestants, but also for agencies and publications entering several photographers.

Yet, they can also download a PDF document with the entry form, the entry rules and the guidelines from our homepage. This document is available in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. They then have to fill in the entry form and send it together with their images burned on a CD/DVD by regular mail or prepaid courier to our office.

The deadline for entries to the 2009 World Press Photo contest is 15 January 2009.

Possible options for you to promote the contest would be:

1. Your mailing may give the www.worldpressphoto.org/contest link to our website, so that your contacts can easily find all the contest entry information.

2. We will provide you with a banner (234 x 60 IMU) announcing the 2009 contest to place on your website. We will deliver the banner as a GIF-file to you. You will then have to create a hyperlink to our website www.worldpressphoto.org/contest, so that potential contestants will be led to our homepage when clicking on the link.

3. We will provide you with a PDF document containing the entry form, the entry rules and the guidelines which you may want to publish on your website or attach to your e-mail messages to your contacts.

If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us at contest@worldpressphoto.org.

We look forward to working with you.

Kind regards,

Micha Bruinvels & Wiebke Duchow
