FPA Visit to Jordan, June 3-8, 2008

 

 

Dear colleagues,

 

We have a final confirmation of our Jordanian friends for an FPA visit to Jordan, June 3-June 8. This visit will be comprised of two parts:

1)       Meetings and interviews on June 4 and 5, covering current state of affairs in the peace process, water problems, honor killings of girls, dialogue of cultures and more. The meetings include HRH Prince Hassan and the Jordanian Foreign Minister.

2)       Visit to the Wadi Rum, meeting with bedouns, seeing some of the locations where Lawrence of Arabia was filmed, etc.

 

The costs are not yet final but are approximately:

1)       flight Cairo-Amman, around 2200 EgP

2)       hotel in Amman, 3 x US$ 80,-

3)       Visit Wadi Rum, around US$ 300 (incl. travel, accommodation)

You thus have a choice of joining this visit for two days only or joining this INCLUDING the Wadi Rum visit. Please inform the FPA office as soon as possible about your wishes.

Referring to my phone call to you a few minutes ago, I am pleased to inform you that we have now a very good program for the FPA visit on 4th and 5th of June.  Some of the exact times involved need confirmation; this will be done early next week.

Wednesday 4 June 2008

 

10:30      Meeting at Jordan TV (top officials will be present, including the Director, quite a remarkable lady)

12:00      Meeting at the Foreign Ministry

[Please note that, in case of logistics problems regarding this date, the meeting will be relegated to the afternoon of the next day]

 

16:00     Meeting with the editor-in-chief of a major Jordanian daily (some leading experts on the issues we have discussed will be present)

 

I am now trying to arrange other key meetings.  The final program should be ready early next week.  (Please note that next Sunday is a national holiday and next week HRH Prince El Hassan will be hosting an important event.  This will delay us just a little!)

Thursday 5 June 2008

 

10:00 -12.00 ...Launch Electronic Network for Arab-West Understanding with HRH Prince Hassan. With presentations about intercultural dialogue by HRH, former Dutch Prime Minister Andreas van Agt, Dr. Samir Khalil, director CEDRAC in Lebanon and myself. The presentations will be followd by a question and answer opportunity with HRH Prince Hassan.

20.  – 22.00 .. Round table discussion about Islamic World-West relations with Prof. van Agt, Dr. Samir Khalil,  Prof. Pakinam Sharqawi of the Program for Civilization Studies and Dialogue of Cultures of Cairo University and Jordanian dignitaries whose names at this moment are not yet known. Also here there will be opportunities for questions and answers.

 

Friday June 6 and Saturday June 7 – Wadi Rum.

 

Includes:

 

- 2 nights at Jabal Rum Camp in Wadi Rum.

- 2 dinners under tents in Wadi Rum.

- 2 breakfast in Wadi Rum.

- Transportations by tourist air-conditioned bus (20 seats) with driver during the trip.

- Escorted English speaking guide.

- Entrance fees to the sites as specified.

- Jeep ride for 4 hours inside the desert.

- Camel ride for 2 hours.

 

The FPA visit to Jordan is now definitely on and please sign up with the office as soon as possible.

 

 

 

2- Second Message

You thus have a choice of joining this visit for two days only OR joining this INCLUDING the Wadi Rum visit. Please inform the FPA office as soon as possible about your wishes.

Itinerary for the trip to Wadi Rum

 

06 June: Transfer from Amman in the morning to Wadi Rum via Kings Highway with stop for visit St. John's church in Mount Nebo with panoramic view over Holy Land, continue to visit St. George's church in Madaba, drive through Wadi Mujib with beautiful view of the mountains.

Reach to Kerak for visit the castle, arrive Wadi Rum by late afternoon, Bedouin dinner under tents with folkloric music and dance with possibility for Bedouin wedding's show.

Over night at Jabal Rum camp.

 

07 June: Full day visit of the beautiful desert of Wadi Rum including jeep ride inside the desert, camel ride, hiking inside the desert with possibility to meet some of the Bedouin families in their tents, return to the camp for rest, dinner and over night at the camp site.

 

08 June: Free time after breakfast, transfer back to Amman through the Desert Highway for around 4 hours driving.

 

That includes:

-          2 nights at Jabal Rum Camp in Wadi Rum.

-          2 breakfast in Wadi Rum.

-          Transportations by tourist air-conditioned bus (20 seats) with driver during the trip.

-    Tips & gratuities for guide, driver and jeep men.

Please respond to the FPA office by Thursday 29 May NOON about your wishes, with your intentions to participate in the Wadi Rum portion of the visit as we need to commit to the tour company. We may need advance payment of 300 US$ for the Wadi Rum portion of the trip prior to departure.
