FLAMENCO GALA NIGHT WITH MARÍA PAGÉS

After taking Egypt by storm last year with her Flamenco Republic, the great flamenco dancer Maria Pages is coming back with one of her most successful works: "Songs, before a War".

This time, Maria Pages Dance Company will participate in the launching of the National Fund to Fight Viral Hepatitis, an initiative of the Liver Institute and the Ministry of Health, under the auspices of Mrs Suzanne Mubarak. This performance has been made possible by the generous sponsorship of CEPSA Egypt SA, Roche, Schering-Plough, the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, Sofitel and the cooperation of the Sawiris Foundation and the Embassy of Spain in Cairo.

María Pagés is considered one of the greatest innovators in contemporary flamenco. Her shows have become famous for her artistic accomplishment and her courageous search of new forms to express the deep truth of flamenco. Now at the summit of her artistic career, the bailaora and choreographer from Seville has established for herself an outstanding place on the international dance scene.

"Songs, before a War" was created from the nostalgic experience of listening to old songs. From those evocative, fun-loving sounds, we feel again like children playing joyfully. Maria Pages dedicated "the onion lullaby" to his son Pancho and to all those teenagers that leave the magical worlds of childhood and reach the border of adult jurisdiction. She wants all of us to feel that fantasy, dreams, joy and tolerance are the best tools to build a better life for all human beings.

María Pagés will have only one Gala Night at the Cairo Opera House and another at the Great Hall of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, whose proceedings will go to the National Fund to Fight Virus Hepatitis. Donations for this project can be directed to the Egyptian Liver Care Society. Tickets requirements for the Cairo Opera House, please call the American Chamber of Commerce: 02 33381050.
